Mararaba (Nasarawa State), May 2, 2017 (NAN) Two businessmen- Tanimu Sani, 22 , and Chinedu Ani, 30, were on Tuesday arraigned in a Mararaba Upper Area Court, Nasarawa State, for allegedly stealing a plasma television and N38, 650 cash.

The defendants, who claimed to be businessmen and reside at Check Point Boundary Road, Mararaba, are standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, trespass and theft.

However, both defendants denied committing the offences.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Hamen Donald, told the court that one Mr Ekene Njoku of Customs Quarters, Mararaba, reported the matter at A Police Division, Mararaba on April 13, at about 2: p.m.

Donald said that the complainant alleged that the defendants conspired and trespassed into his shop through the ceiling.

“They stole N38, 650 cash and 21 inch- plasma television and escaped to unknown destination, until they were traced and arrested,” he said.

The prosecutor also said that the offences contravened Sections 97, 349 and 288 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Ibrahim Shekarau, granted the accused N50, 000 bail each and one surety each in like amount.

He added that the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned the case until May 15, for further hearing. (NAN)
