Abuja, Feb. 28, 2018 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced two applicants, Monday Onyabo, and Junior Audu, to seven months imprisonment each for stealing savings box.

Onyabo and Audu, of Angwan Shehu, Karmo, Abuja, had pleaded guilty to a four-count charge of joint act, criminal trespass, house-breaking and theft.

The judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convicts an option of N1,000 fine each.

Sadiq ordered the convicts to pay N20,000 as compensation to the complainant and warned them to desist from committing crime.

He said that the punishment would have been more severe if the convicts had not pleaded guilty and saved the court the pains of prolonged prosecution.

The prosecutor, Dalhatu Zannah, had told the court that one Abdullahi Suleman reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station on Feb. 20.

Zannah told the court that on Feb. 19, at about 2 p.m. the convicts and others now at large, broke into the complainant’s house.

He said that the convicts stole the complainant’s savings box containing N20, 000, and two MP 3, valued at N3,000 without his consent.

Zannah said that during police investigation, one MP 3 was recovered from the convicts and they admitted committing the offences.

He said that all effort made to recover the remaining MP3 prove abortive.

He said the offences contravened Sections 79, 348, 349 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
