Sokoto April 12, 2017 (NAN) No fewer than 14 Corps members who absconded from service will repeat their service year in Sokoto State.

The state NYSC Coordinator, Alhaji Musa Abubakar disclosed this at the passing-out ceremony of the 2017 Batch ‘A’ stream I Corps members on Thursday in Sokoto.

He said that a total of 1,659 Corps members passed out in the state, with six who distinguished themselves during the service year.

“This is in the areas of their primary assignment, community development programme, general conduct as well as their contribution during the orientation exercise.

“Moreover, two others will receive the prestigious Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar III award.

“This is for their acceptance to serve in rural areas and outstanding contribution towards uplifting the educational standard of their host communities,” he said.

The Coordinator commended the government and people of the state for accommodating the NYSC Corps members during the course of their service year.

In his remarks Gov. Aminu Tambuwal advised the out-going Corps members to desist from acts capable of bringing shame to them and their families.

Tambuwal represented by the state Head of Service, Dr. Buhari Kware said, “as you step into the wider world, do not allow anybody to use you to settle political, tribal or religious differences.

“Be good representatives of Sokoto by showcasing the good virtues of peace and mutual understanding of the state,” he said.

He further commended the contributions of the Corps members in the areas of health, rural development and education, saying the state will forever cherish such sacrifices. (NAN)
