Bwari (Abuja) Jan. 26, 2018 (NAN) The Chairman of Bwari Area Council of the FCT , Mr Musa Dikko, on Friday urged community leaders to brace up to the challenges of restoring peace and stability in the area.
Dikko, who made the call at the stakeholders’ meeting held in Bwari, said activities of youths in recent times had led to the breakdown of law and order in December 2017.
“You must ensure that you monitor the people who come in and out of your domains and you should be able to identify the strangers living among you, as remaining security conscious is very paramount to the maintenance of peace and tranquility in this area.
“You must also monitor your children against all kinds of criminal activities and influence of bad eggs in the society because they are usually the one initiating most of the criminal activities in and around every territory,” he said.
Dikko further said promotion of unity and understanding in their respective communities in spite of religious and ethnic differences should be uppermost on their minds.
The chairman assured the community leaders of his determination to apply the council’s limited resources to improve the living condition of the residents of the area, saying that the was determined to bring government closer to the people.
“I assure you that in spite of the limited allocation given to this council, we would work hard to bring development to this council and carry every one along by providing the dividends of democracy,” he said.
Also, the Etsu Bwari, Mr Ibrahim Yaro lauded the efforts of the chairman at ensuring the restoration peace and tranquility in the area, especially after the unfortunate youth’s riot of Dec.24, 2017.
He maintained that meaningful development can only take place in any community when the people embrace peace and mutual tolerance.
Contributing, the leader of Ebira community, Mr Jimoh Mohammed, urged the council chairman to continue to discharge his laudable responsibilities to guarantee peace and tranquility in the area.
Mohammed appealed to the chairman to consider granting of scholarship to qualified children of non indigenes as a way of promoting oneness and giving them sense of belonging.
He noted that such an initiative would go a long way to demonstrate the present council’s populist posture towards the non indigenes residing in Bwari.(NAN)
