    Court remands farmer for allegedly raping 65-year-old woman

    Ado-Ekiti, June 28, 2024(NAN) An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday, ordered that a 45-year-old farmer, Abajigbin Gbenga, who allegedly raped a 65-year-old woman, be remanded in a correctional centre, pending legal advice.

    The police charged Gbenga with rape.

    The Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, who did not take the plea of Gbenga, ordered the police to return the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) in Ekiti for legal advice.

    Babalogbon adjourned the case until July 31 for mention.

    Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Insp Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that Gbenga committed the offence sometime in April 2024 at Ipole Iloro- Ekiti.

    Adeniyi alleged that the victim told the suspect to help her fumigate her farm.

    ”When the suspect got to the farm, he called the victim to bring the chemical to the site. On getting to the farm, he raped her, the prosecutor said

    Ado-Ekiti, June 27, 2024 (NAN) Two brothers, Love Adesigbin, 13, and Heritage Adesigbin, 16 , along with one Michael Agboola, 19, were on Thursday, arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, charged with breaking into a shop and stealing.

    The defendants, whose addresses were not provided, are facing a three-count charge of breaking-in, stealing and receiving stolen property.

    However, when the charges were read to the defendants respectively,  each pleaded not guilty.

    The Prosecutor, Insp Akinwale Oriyomi told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Feb. 5  at  7:30 p.m. in Ado-Ekiti.

    He alleged that the first defendant broke into the shop of one Rabiu Kudirat and stole a Samsung Galaxy AO4S phone valued at N250,000 and cash sum of N110,000.

    Oriyomi said that the second defendant on Feb. 6, at 9:00 a.m. collected the stolen Samsung Galaxy phone from his brother and on March 10 at 9:00 p.m. transferred the stolen Samsung Galaxy phone to Michael Agboola.

    According to him, the offences contravened Sections 324(1) and (2), 302(1)(a) and 343(2)(a) and (b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

    The prosecutor asked the court for adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

    Counsel to the defendants, Mr Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant his clients bail, and  promised that they would not jump bail.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Olarewaju Owoleso, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each, and one surety each in like sum.

  • 3 in court over alleged theft of motorcycle valued N2m

    Ado-Ekiti, June 27, 2024(NAN) Three men, Abdullahi Usman, Abdullahi Azeez and Alex Sunday, were on Thursday, arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle valued N2 million.

    Usman, 22, Azeez, 25, and Sunday, 32,  whose addresses were not given, are being charged with stealing.

    The Prosecutor, Insp Raymond Osas, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on June 5, in Ikole-Ekiti.

    He stated that the defendants stole one Bajaj motorcycle valued N2 million, belonging to the complainant, Saliu Mohammed.

    Osas further said that the offence contravened Section 302(1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

    The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Olubunmi Bamidele, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N200,000 each, with two sureties in like sum.

    Ado-Ekiti, June 26, 2024(NAN) The Police, on Wednesday, arraigned a 22-year old man, Gbolahan Rilwan, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged possession of hemp.
    The defendant, of no fixed address, is being charged with possession of hemp.
    The Prosecutor, Insp Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at about 5.00p.m on June 22, in Ado-Ekiti.
    He said that the defendant had in his possession weeds suspected to be hemp, an illicit substance.
    Adeniyi said that the offence contravened Section 5(b) of the Indian Hemp Act LFN 2004.
    He urged the court to adjourn the matter to enable him to study the case file and assemble witnesses.
    The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
    Counsel to the defendant, Mr Tolulope Bewaji, prayer the court to grant the defendant bail, promising that he would not jump bail.
    The Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

    Ado-Ekiti, June 25, 2024(NAN) A 40-year-old man, Musa Haruna, was on Tuesday, docked in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged stealing of electric cable.

    The police charged Haruna, with stealing.

    The police prosecutor, Insp Elijah Adejare, told the court that the defendant and others at large, committed the offence on June 17,  at about 10:00 a.m in Ado-Ekiti.

    He alleged that the defendant and others at large, stole electric cable wire valued about at N2 million, property of Adebisi Olufemi.

    The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 302(1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.

    He prayed the court for an adjournment to enable him assemble his witnesses.

    The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    Counsel to the defendant, Mr Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Olarewaju Owoleso, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Owoleso said one of the sureties must be a landed owner.

    Ado-Ekiti, June 25, 2024(NAN) A 34-year old man, Basiru Mohammed, was on Tuesday, arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly being in possession of a stolen sewing machine.
    Mohammed, who’s address was not given, is being charged with possession of stolen sewing machine.
    The Police Prosecutor, Insp Olasunkanmi Bamikole, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at about 6.00a.m, on June 21, in Ado-Ekiti.
    Bamikole said that the defendant had in his possession a sewing machine suspected to have been stolen.
    The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 345 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
    He prayed the court for an adjournment to avail him time to study the case file and assemble witnesses.
    Counsel to the defendant, Mr Femi Olarewaju, urged the court to admit the defendant bail, and promised that he would not jump bail.
    The Chief Magistrate, Saka Afunso, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N25,000 with one surety in like sum.

    Ado-Ekiti, June 24, 2024(NAN)A 25-year-old student, Olalekan Oni, was on Monday docked in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged indecent assault.
    The police charged Oni, with indecent assault.
    The police prosecutor, Insp Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 16, 2024, at Oye-Ekiti.
    He alleged that the defendant, touched Omukoro Irikefe and Oseni Akingbola’s body sexually.
    The police said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 150 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.
    The prosecutor prayed the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
    The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
    Counsel to the defendant, Mr Femi Falade, urged the court to grant  his client bail in the most liberal terms.
    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Owoleso Olarewaju, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N150,000 with one surety in like sum.

    Ado-Ekiti, June 21, 2024 (NAN) An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Friday, ordered the remand of a 36-year-old man, Abbey Olorunfemi, who is facing a charge of being a member of a secret cult.
    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Saka Afunso, who did not take the plea of the defendant, ordered his remand in the Correctional centre pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution.
    Afunso subsequently adjourned the case till July 15 for mention.
    Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Olasunkanmi Bamikole, had told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on May 29 at 10:00 a.m., in Iworoko-Ekiti.
    He said that the defendant was found to be a member of Aiye confraternity.
    Bamikole said that the offence contravened Section 41 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.
    The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in the correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

    Ado-Ekiti, June 21, 2024 (NAN) The police, on Friday, arraigned a 42-year-old man, Seyi Olakanmi, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged forgery and fraud.
    The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a three-count charge bordering on forgery, fraud and breach of peace.
    The Police Prosecutor, Insp Olasunkanmi Bamikole, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 7 at about 10 a.m. at Erinfun Street, off Poly road, Ado-Ekiti.
    He said that Olakanmi forged a receipt of ASAO family land and Fajemilua family land.
    Bamikole said that the defendant also obtained the sum of N630,000 from one Ekele Daniel on the pretext of selling a plot of land that did not belong to him.
    He also said that Olakanmi conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.
    According to him, the offences contravene Sections 376(1), 329(3) and 181(D) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
    The prosecutor asked the court for adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
    The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
    Counsel to the defendant, Mr Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Saka Afunso, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000, with two sureties in like sum.
    Afunso said that one of the sureties must provide evidence of payment of tax for the last three years.

    Ado-Ekiti, June 21,2024 (NAN) Three men, Adamu Abdullahi, 46, Haruna Musa,57, and Sanni Garba,26, were, on Friday, arraigned in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged possession of explosives.

    The defendants, of unknown addresses, are facing a charge of possession of explosives.

    The police prosecutor, Insp Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 5, in Ado-Ekiti.

    He alleged that the defendants had in their possession three cartridges of 32mm, detonating cord and firing cables.

    Oriyomi said that the offence contravened Section 1(c) and punishable under Section 1(e) of the Explosive Act 1964 and Explosive Regulation 1967.

    He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.

    The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.

    Counsel to the defendants, Mr Ademola Richard, urged the court to grant the defendants bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Olarewaju Owoleso, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one surety each in like sum.
