Obiaruku (Delta), March 7, 2017 (NAN) Residents of Obiaruku, the headquarters of Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta, have commended security operatives for providing security during their annual Ikenga festival.
The spokesman of the community, Rev. Ogochukwu Emeni, made the commendation on Tuesday in Obiaruku in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said that Ikenga festival celebrated annually by the people of Obiaruku in February, had been associated with stories of woes and often marred by blood letting.
“However, the 2017 edition of Ikenga festival, witnessed hitch-free celebration with all the credit to God, the security agencies especially the Divisional Police headquarters in Obiaruku which ensured there was tight security.
“Before the commencement of the festival, the police warned miscreants and criminals to stay clear of the festival.
“The police warned that they would deal decisively with anybody who has the intention of causing problem during the festival,’’ he said.
Emeni called for the revival of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), which he said, had not been living up to its responsibilities.
He expressed regret that the PCRC, which ought to serve as bridge between the police and the community, had failed in assisting the police with relevant information that could assist them in doing their job.
Emeni also advocated for more training and retraining of police personnel to enable them deal with modern global challenges in the digital age. (NAN)
